There have been a few news articles recently covering the problems that some photographers are having while using their cameras in public places. It seems that there are a growing number of incidents where the police, or other figures of "authority", are mistakenly apprehending photographers because they think that they are operating illegally.
The BBC had an article last week suggesting that some photographers are being mistaken for "terrorists":
Misplaced fears about terror, privacy and child protection are preventing amateur photographers from enjoying their hobby, say campaigners. Phil Smith thought ex-EastEnder Letitia Dean turning on the Christmas lights in Ipswich would make a good snap for his collection.
The 49-year-old started by firing off a few shots of the warm-up act on stage. But before the main attraction showed up, Mr Smith was challenged by a police officer who asked if he had a licence for the camera.
After explaining he didn't need one, he was taken down a side-street for a formal "stop and search", then asked to delete the photos and ordered not take any more. So he slunk home with his camera.
Wow, so taking photos in the middle of Ipswich is illegal?

You have a digital camera and hopefully you are happy with the quality of the photos it takes but did you know that you can considerably improve these images just by performing very simple and basic editing commands in programs like Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, Paint Shop Pro and Gimp etc? What’s more you don’t need to shoot in RAW in order to perform these adjustments as they can be performed on Jpeg and TIFF or in fact any image format.
Before we start editing photos though we should first make sure our monitor and software is set-up correctly as if these don’t reproduce colours accurately we can’t adjust our photos accurately and what might look nice on our monitor may look horrible on someone else’s. This process is called calibration.

To the uninitiated buying a digital camera can feel like a daunting prospect, should you buy Nikon, Canon or Fuji? Should you buy a compact, bridge or DSLR? How many megapixels are enough and just what features do you really need to look for in a camera? In the following article I'll cover the various types of camera out there and discuss the merits and pitfalls of each and expose a few myths along the way so that hopefully by the end, you'll have a better idea of what camera is right for you. |

Sigma announce the launch of their 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM lens. What's so special about that you may think? Well, hopefully the price but it also means that there is finally a rival to Canon's model and finally an f/1.4 version for Nikon that has an HSM motor as Nikon's own 50mm lens doesn't have their AF-S motor..
Canon already have four versions of this lens the: Canon EF 50mm f/2.5 - £179 Canon EF 50mm f/1.2 L USM - £899 Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II - £69 Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM - £223 Nikon have: Nikon 50mm f1.8 D AF - £79 Nikon 50mm f1.4 D AF - £189 |

I love music, and what can be better than free music. There are plenty of ways to download music for free, but not all our legal! I have managed to gather a collection of websites that do offer free and legal mp3 downloads.
3hive - A blog style listing of MP3 songs.
The Free Music Group - This is also another blog style listing. Offering specific genres, mainly solo piano, solo acoustic guitar, Christmas music, music for children and Christian pop/rock.
music.download.com - An expansion of the software download site download.com. Plenty of free full length MP3’s to choose from, covering most genres.
MP34U - MP3 4U is made up of “sources” that search the internet for free and legal mp3 downloads. When they find a file they post it on their MP3 4U page.
mfiles - A site sharing free classical music
and for the kids
Free Kids Music - Does what it says on the tin!
Know any more sites? |
