Just upgraded F-Secure 2006 Internet Security Suite on the brood's pc running XP.  Roll Eyes

Now we have no connection to the router.

Tries to connect but the router isn't giving out a dhcp ip address to the pc.

Have shut down all firewalls. No effect.

Noted that the connection strength is so low it's popping up a warning.

Penguin lappy from the same room connects fine and dandy. Logging into the router doesn't throw up anything out of the ordinary.

Thoughts?

renew the ip via the command line. It's a bit of a black art but load a command prompt and type
ipconfig /?

That'll give you the list of commands. Try releasing/renewing/refreshing/sacrificing a dead chicken to see if it works.

After that see if the machine can actually see the router. Try pinging it. It it can't then it may be f-secure blocking access. Take a look at the firewall rules and see if there's anything stopping it. Turn the firewall off to test if it can connect without it (turn it back on afterwards)

Have done all that Mr Sickpuppy.

Have turned off all f-secure's firewall, access control, unloaded it but still no joy.

Have uninstalled f-secure and internet is now working.

Been in touch with their tech support and am singularly unimpressed.

Uninstalling now and will get a refund.
