I wonder if anyone can help.

I have just been informed that my current host cannot continue to host my site and forum when it comes up for renewal due to it using a lot of the servers resources.

Can anyone recommend the best solution to host my site considering the site has no real form of income and is largley paid for by myself.

I currently have around 150mb of space in use although I have 2500mb available and i use apparently around 30GB of bandwidth a month.

I really could do with some pointers on this if possible.

Thanks in advance

Might not be the greatest suggestion in the world, but you might want to look at some of the gaming servers that sell cheap space with lots of bandwidth. A friend of a friend of mine runs something like and I'll get the link for you if you want...

If you are using a lot of server resources, then going to a gaming server is not going to be a good idea. They are mainly used on evenings/wknds, which is when I assume your forum (which i assume is the site in qn) would be busiest.

Your best bet is to look into a dedicated server if your funds can stretch that far - obviously, they aren't as cheap as shared hosting, but a busy site can't be run on a shared hosting package for long.

The other option is to look at VPS solutions, which is similar to a dedicated server, but it's retricted to say 4 sites per server. Your site cannot affect/be affected by the other users. This is cheaper than a dedicated server.

In the end, you don't really want to keep moving from host to host if you have a busy site. You're best off contacting them, letting them know your site's stats etc, and then going from there.

I wouldn't trust a site this big with a small time company.

Who hosts these sites that have 1000s of users and 100s of 1000s of posts. I have a fully paid forum which has 2500 members of which 500 actually post and only 66,000 posts. Is it my particular forum which is server hungry.

Trouble is that there is no funding for my site so I do feel that it will end in 8 weeks unless I find a solution.

If your site is that busy could you not set up some sort of paid service on the forum. You say you've got 500 people who actually post. If they all donated just £5 a year that'd be £2500 a year which should cover a dedicated server. Don't know how much the VPS option that Jee mentioned costs but I'd imagine it wouldn't be more than £200 a month.

I dont think the tight beggars would part with it.

Has anyone any experience with http://ukwebsolutionsdirect.co.uk/. They host a friends site that has over 500,000 posts and 8000 members compared to my 2500 members and 66,000 posts. He says he has had no trouble with them at all. Their premium hosting limits 50 sites to a server for those that require a little more, which I guess mine falls into.

Sounds like your mate does and that would be a good enough recommendation for me.  smile
