HELLO GONTLEMEN!

The worlds largest maker of motorbikes, and a maker of cars, buses, engines, generators, motors and other useful things has approached me with a view to advertising on my site.

The thing is, I have no idea how much to charge, or how to take this on a more professional way. I am a newbie to the world of advertising. Obviously my site is the only site of its kind on the net and gets very generous page views and uniques per day.

My question is, wtf do I do? They want to know a figure, monthly figure, and other stuff.

I have no idea. I am novice. Should I make a 'media pack' explaining the site, site stats, and rate card in two languages or something?

Thanks.

I am dumb to this game.

Yes.

Dunno about the languages bit - what's the general convention for business documents in China?

Wouldn't do any harm, though.

Oh, and base your quote on the CPM (cost per mille, or how much you want to get for every thousand views you get) you want to achieve.

You'll have to do some research on typical rates in your sector.

So this SEO copywriter walks into a bar, grill, pub, public house, Irish bar, bartender, drinks, beer, wine, liquor...

To get the rates, would I look at an American autoblog and figure out what they are charging? I was thinking of doing it in ZH/EN languages so I can give it to perhaps western companies who are in the parts/supplying business and to Chinese car manufacturers. The website seems to get mostly US/EU traffic but the Chinese traffic is growing month on month.

Whats Cost Per Mille? I was thinking of going off no of page views, is that what CPM is?

Im trying to make my site into my main income maker so I need to get it nailed.

Cheers fags.

I was supposed to send them info over the weekend but forgot, and forgot today. They called me and seem very very eager.

I finally spent two hours writing up the stuff and making space on my site for ads. Hope something comes of it!

Good luck.

Don't forget, there is above/below-the-fold; banner; sidebars and the various sizes that you can scale your charges for too.

You could also just charge a per/mth fee and do away with the variable fluctuations.

They are moaning over the prices, but they call me everyday. I know they want it, they just dont want to pay for it.

They also want me to have THEIR adverts designed.  shocking

Cheeky fekkers!

Like I said, get some typical prices for your sector and show them that you're competitive (assuming you are).  Remind them of the uniqueness of your site and the added value they'll get from advertising on your site; not just in direct sales but by building and strengthening their brand visibility in the emerging channel of blogging.

If they want you to design a banner ad, charge them a bit extra and either do it yourself or outsource it.
