Did you get Mexicans constantly shoving tittybar cards in your hand everytime you walked along the strip? I wouldn't have minded but I was walking along with my wife at the time.
Didn't stop me trying to get a complete set though. I even thought about creating a porno panini sticker album.

Off there in December to run the marathon. Can't wait although I heard the area around the Stratosphere is like the Bronx at night and that's where we are staying when we get our act together...

You can run can't you? It is a wee bit rougher up that end. On the main strip is safe enough just be careful which side-streets you start wandering down after dark. Even then it's not that dodgy.

When a mate was out there, there were some guys on the next table arranging a 'hit' and also someone took a call to say his brother had just been carjacked and he ran off with his gun. Not too dodgy...!

Never really fancied it TBH. Probably just down to my ignorance, but I fail to see the attraction of a few bright lights and casinos in the middle of a desert.

It's not somewhere I would have chosen to go, but the Mrs didn't want to miss her sister's wedding. The closest thing I can equate it with is a sort of Disney Land for adults, there is so much to see. I'll definitely go back. I'm no gambler, but I did enjoy a bit of a flutter especially because between the two of us we won $500 on craps & a poker machine! It was flippin hot though, the groom, our FIL & I played golf on Monday in 110 degrees! we had to give up half way through.

Don`t listen to me. I went to NY absolutely convinced I would hate the place. I adored it.

I'd love to go for the poker, but I've heard after about a week, you're in need of some real life

I love NYC - great place. I plan to retire there As far as Las Vegas, I wouldn't choose to only go there, but as part of a wider look at the area definately - we're planning to fly into San Fran, spend 5 nights there (or possibly six if we drive up to see Old Faithful), then drive to Yosemite for some Ansel Adams style inspiration - 3 nights, then down to Santa Monica/LA for the sheer hell of it - been there before and there's more we've yet to see, before finally heading to Vegas for 6 nights I think - including a night out in the Grand Canyon. Seeing you all talk about it has got me quite excited - first proper holiday for haidontknowhowlong - hooray! Sam

That's pretty much what we did when we went there although we did vegas in the middle of the trip. If we'd have done it again we'd have dropped LA altogether and spent more time in SF.

I'm off to NYC in November. My sister lives in Manhattan, she's due to sprog next month so we're using that as an excuse to go out there for a long weekend. Looking forward to it. I know most people know what Las Vegas looks like, but in case you've forgotten, there's a few snaps here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/splashpoint/sets/72157594497200472/

4 in Vegas at a 5* Which one? We stayed at the Venetian for a few days then saved money at Circus Circus. It was great to contrast a newish modern hotel with a 70s throwback. When you're at the canyon it's worth booking a helicopter flight. The canyon is so enormous it actually doesn't look that big from the ground as you have very little to judge heights from if that makes sense. In LA don't bother with Hollywood unless you want to see the dictionary definition of "disappointment"

I really liked the look of the Venetian, but it wasn't available for the dates so we're staying at the Mandalay Bay. I'm up for the helicopter ride, not sure what to do with the kids though. re: hollywood, been there and done that - didn't see much of LA though - we went without the kids for our wedding anniversary a couple of years ago but only for 5 days, so this will be a chance to see some of the other bits about the area. Edit: http://www.hotelportofino.com/portofino_home.aspx is the hotel just outside LA Sam
