larger image pop up

Doing a site where I'll need a larger version of a thumb nail and I thought a nice way to go might be similar to on istock or something similar

Ooops what a long link .. you get the picture .. maybe just larger image or maybe larger image and a bit of text .. nothing more ... hopefully it's straightforward .. any pointers ?

If the thumbnail image is linked you can do it on hover quite easily. You'd just need to watch file sizes as all the hidden larger images would load with the page. Alternatively you could do it with javascript, as per Andy's suggestion (though I wouldn't recommend stealing iStock's scripts), which would likely have the same caveats as the CSS only method. Or you could do it with a bit of ajaxified javascript and PHP.

As if I would...  Only kidding... Just ask and hopefully someone will assist...  that's me... isn't the script based on something from scriptaculous or something.....?
