manual controls with jQuery flexSlider

Has anyone here used manual control for the flexSlider?

I want to be able to have the slider and next to it 2 buttons like a featured slider.
There isn't much documentation for the FlexSlider but it mentions in the options there is a manual control you can set.
I'm not sure if this will let have the 3 button on the side or not.

Have any of you done this with the FlexSlider or any other slider?
I want it to be responsive which was is why i was looking at the FlexSlider in the first place but if there any other sliders i can use to achieve this and also be responsive let me know
