I've just upgraded Firefox (didn't want to but was having problems with a WP theme) and I absolutely hate the new version. Thanks to the transparency I can hardly read the top menu and buttons. I don't want to disable Aero but I can't cope with Firefox as it is.

Is there an easy way (I've seen on other forums fixes that involve changing files which I don't want to do) of reducing the transparency - maybe via a plug-in or setting I haven't yet discovered? Alternatively if anyone knows of a theme that makes it look like the old version then I'd have some of that.

I've noticed the new version is quite sluggish too, so I might ditch it in favour of something else eventually.

Great post Jon! I have been following the effort since you started it, and although I have understood its purpose this post does a really great job solidifying the full rationale.

what was your old version?

I changed mine to make it look like the older version I had, but don't remember how exactly.

You could try changing the theme too.

Yeah, it copies the Aero theme settings - which work fine for folders but are completely crap in Firefox.

Cheers SP having a look. I've just tried one but the background image in their screengrab has been replaced in my browser by an even more transparent background. I'll try and get it back to what it was when I can find the buttons.

I'll start swearing in a bit.

Sorted it, used this theme: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/firefox-3-theme-for-firefox/?src=cb-dl-users to get it back to how it was, and I can now actually read the menu items.

p.s Firefox = morons
