Now on version 16. Wow. Facebook integration.

Do people actually still use this, now that Windows has basic integrated zip support?

Do individuals buy it? $40 to register. We have corporate license of version 14.

I do remember my father-in-law buying version 10 maybe. But that's just the kind of guy he is.

I use 7-zip at home. Open source, quick, and decent file support.

Version 16?!? Blimey, I can't even remember the last version I used.

I tend to use WinRAR a lot at home, although that requires registration too. I've heard a lot of people use 7-Zip because it's free, but I never liked the cartooney interface much. I have used it at work on occasion though.

I'm on version 15, it came with the ultimate version of paint shop pro. Before that I actually paid for some version or other (think it was 9)

I find it quicker and more reliable that other unzippers but why would you want to upgrade. As long as it works on your OS and zips and unzips files what more do you need. That's always been winzip's problem. The core functionality hasn't changed for over a decade.

I use the built in Windows zip/unzip. Only problem I have on occasion is not being able to open gzip or rar files, so I just pass them on to Mr A to open for me. See no real need to install anything else.

Great post Jon! I have been following the effort since you started it, and although I have understood its purpose this post does a really great job solidifying the full rationale.

I barely see it. Using the Windows context menu, it's just 'Add this file to zip', or 'Unpack this zip to this folder'.

I never did get the hang of the built-in Windows zip features. I'm not sure I trust them either. Maybe I'm just being stoopid.

Why would you need facebook integration in winzip?dry

Is that so it can publish some yawn worthy information about your compression habbits?

We use zip files every day to send batches of test results around but we only use the built-in Windows function.

I did buy WinZip many many years ago but it must have been in something like 1995 and WinZip was still on single-digits then. smile Didn't even know it was still going.

^This. The only problem i have is that it can't get into .jar files, but thats not really a frequent issue.

Why is a Winzip thread one of the most popular threads we've had for a while?

I use power archiver. I gave 7-zip a try (& still have it installed for now) but stopped using it when I needed to use PA to extract something it couldn't open.

Ahh, PSP. Still use PSP5 (yes, 5) to do a lot of stuff. Although I obviously use other programs for vectors, etc now.

Still, can't beat it for general graphics/design work. Loads in about a nanosecond these days too. big grin
