I've got some Philips ones and they are close in colour to my existing old school lights. Not sure they's be dimmable though.

They seem quite expensive to me but would also like to replace some of the old halogens, which use about 250Wh.
Interest piqued.

I keep going to buy some LED lights to replace some Halogens in the kitchen. At the moment they are too expensive to worry about my other lights as they are all 11W low energy so I wouldn't be saving that much.
Doing some maths on the kitchen lights though:
4 x 50W. Supposing the light is on for about 4 hours a day which is realistic at the moment with these dark nights. = 24 kWh for the month. x 10p per unit (I think I'm paying about 9.8 or something).
= £2.40 per month / Or somewhere around £25-30 per year.
4x GU10 LEDs at around 4W for equivalent to 50W halogen = 19p per month or probably less that £2.50 for a year.
I've been looking at loads of different prices for bulbs, but probably think that the cheaper end is not going to be very good in terms of colour quality or brightness. I'm guessing that to replace my 4 halogens in the kitchen will set me back £50-60 which means it will take a few years for them to start paying for themselves. On the other hand, in my experience halogens don't seem to last longer than a year, so I'd rather buy an LED which should last a damn long time than keep buying halogens.
It would be definitely be worth changing, but I'd like to see them come down in price a bit more.

Great post Jon! I have been following the effort since you started it, and although I have understood its purpose this post does a really great job solidifying the full rationale.

I have a veritable mountain of 'proper' 60w tungsten bulbs stockpiled. Enough to see me out of this world

There are good ones and there are really bad ones with blatant lies on the outside of the box. If you want decent ones then I can help. If you want cheap crap then I wont be able to help, I have suppliers of cheap crap but am not prepared to sell them. Read more here http://www.currington.net/led_gu10_bulbs.aspI can do DDN discount.

Any E14 LED spots recommendations?
Though I've been annoyed enough by the poor selection that I might just replace the lighting I currently have.

We have some available I believe but the demand is low so I don't think we have stock for instant dispatch, I can check in the morning if you want. Matt

You're OK, for the moment, thanks. Was more just thinking if there are any decent ones. Like you said, it doesn't seem to be so popular.

No probs, I wasn't trying to push a sale. The E14/SES ones I've tested have been quite poor to be honest Steve. Most of the efforts seem to be concentrated on the GU10 market so you'd probably be better looking at updating the fittings (again, not trying to push a sale). Matt

No worries, I didn't take it that way. The fittings were not researched at all, and semi-impulse purchases when moving into a new place (around 5 years ago), so yeah, maybe time for an upgrade at some point.
