===============================================

|===============CSS BREADCRUMBS =================|

===============================================

It's possible to create a navigation breadcrumb on "stylised" buttons to indicate what page the user is on.

It's all to do with assignin an "id" to the body, eg... <body id ="bpagename">

I prefixed the pagename with a "b" to mark it out as the rule belongin to the body tag.

On your navbar, assign a similar, but un-prefixed "id" to the anchor like thus, <a href="pagename.htm" title="Mind ya business" id ="pagename">Pagename</a>

You can use your own prefix convention of course.

In the CSS file you can style the anchor thus:

#bpagename a#pagename, #bpagename1 a#pagename1, #bpagename2 a#pagename2 {

font-weight:600;

background-color: #999;

color: #333;

border-color: #f0f0f0 #909090 #909090 #f0f0f0;

border-style: solid;

}

As you can see from the above example, if you seperate the pagenames with a comma (,) you can control all your breadcrumb rules from the stylesheet.

You might make the rule so that there is no hover effect and the background-color is a slightly different color for example.

On each page where the body id name matches the anchor id in the stylesheet, the rule is applied to that anchor only and no others.

TOP SEARCH ENGINE RANKINGS - SPREADING YOUR SEED!

In a minute, I'm gonna give you a link to a free piece of kit which I've found VERY handy for SE rankin and site-content research.

Before I do though, I have to warn you that I consider this to be "near-the-edge" stuff let's say, and as I don't want to risk havin your site banned I'll give a few suggestions first on how to use it's results.

Basically, the app is a doorway-page generator - in fact, that's what it's called! - and this particular one has to be the easiest and most effective one I've come across...that's free anyway!

HOWEVER, when I say "effective", I mean in it's research and labour-saving functionality, the pages it generates I'm not entirely happy with TBH, so that's what I'll briefly cover now...don't wanna upset the visitors or get ya self banned do ya!

CONTENT IS KING... *yawn*

A tired mantra maybe but your aim is to make a useful and interestin site to your visitors and if you want LOTS of them, you need to dominate as many SERPS as possible - that means targetted CONTENT. This tool will help you decide that as well as test the subjects you write about, ie...how responsive they'll be.

Operatin the program is self-explanatory and does not need much detailin here...except the advanced fine-tunin which I'll go into next, but first I must skip to the last two steps of the apps' operation...

Code Optimisation

Avoid global variables wherever possible.

When matching a variable name to a memory address a program first checks for a matching local variable, then a matching class/module private variable and finally a global variable. This all takes time and can slow things down as well as promoting very bad programming techniques!

--- :9: SITE CHECK- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

How search engine ready is your site? Have a look at what the search engine sees at:

Page title and meta tags are NOT included (you can check these yourself!) But text and links are shown.

This visit may well appear in your stats as googlebot as a result of using this free service.

See also http://www.searchengineworld.com/ for HTML validation check ( a humbling experience) and another SE spider simulator.

Sadly the newly repackaged bravenet.com has dropped similar tools and gone commercial - the once useful www.websitegarage.com has simply gone...

Samsung Electronics America is trying to make a big splash in the digital video recorder market with a large-capacity product, one able to store up to 100 hours of programming.

The company this week announced its first DVR device, which is designed to work with DirecTV satellite service and TiVo's service.

The SIR-S4120R has a 120GB hard drive. Samsung claims the device, which will be available in early September priced at $499 (£317.2, has 50 percent more storage capacity than most DVRs now available.

Freeserve ends Dixons deal

By Matthew Broersma, ZDNet UK

The top British ISP will part company with Dixons, as it looks for new routes to profitability

Freeserve, the UK's biggest Internet service provider, said on Monday it would not renew a long-standing distribution agreement with electrical retailer Dixons Group, confirming weeks of speculation.

The move ends five years of history between the two companies, and could have a substantial impact upon Freeserve's ability to acquire new customers.

I was quite flattered a few days ago when someone said they thought I was the same age as they were (41). When you get to my age you grab compliments whenever you can.
