Monthly Competition #28

Theme: In miniature

Entries will ideally have been taken during July, however back catalogue images can be used. Also, as the June contest is overrunning I'm going to extend this one through to August 31, so images taken up until then will be accepted too.

Please ensure that images are posted at a maximum of 500px along any edge. Each entrant can post two images and the deadline for entering is 07 September.

Please number your image(s); if you're the first entrant then please tag it as #1. Please number subsequent entries sequentially from the previous entry. If you're entering two images please ensure you add an entry number for both images (a separate post isn't/shouldn't be necessary).

If hosting your images on Flickr you can get the BB Code for forum posting by going to the Flickr photo page and selecting "Grab the BBCode" from the "Share this" options (button immediately above the photo). Then make sure that medium 500 is selected and the BBCode radio button checked to get the correct BB Code to copy (it'll include a tagline code snippet too which you can delete).

When voting please reference the posted entry number to identify your choices (though I'll consolidate the entries in this post to help Steve out).

Thanks and good luck!

Great post Jon! I have been following the effort since you started it, and although I have understood its purpose this post does a really great job solidifying the full rationale.

Can you still get those? I used to paint them years ago when it was only Warhammer 20K wink

 biggrin

Haven't set foot in a Games Workshop for 15 years, but I had a look on their web site and it seems like they've had a clear out and only promote Warhammer and Warhammer 40k.
Still a little bit of stuff on the fringe like Blood Bowl (but the beautiful polystyrene game board has gone). Space Hulk has gone, Adeptus Titanicus gone. All the good board games like Fury of Dracula (I've still a copy and it's a brilliant game), Dark Future and the Judge Dredd stuff has all gone.
I suppose they've felt the pinch through the console age, but they seem to be strong with their core stuff. A few kids in our street play Warhammer 40k. That's what got my son asking about it and so I dug my paints and miniatures out of the loft for him. I forgot how much unpainted stuff I had.

And the winner is ... Rob! Congratulations Rob  old skool wink

It looks like we need to take a break from this again. Or maybe drop the themes entirely so people can just post their favourite one or two images for the month and have a free vote on them?

I say keep going. This one was over Summer and it always gets quieter on these sorts of things over summer.

Promise I'll enter the next one...

Nobody's playing.  crybaby

Would it be worth setting out 6 months so people know what to shoot in advance? Vote for categories rather than the winner choosing one to increase the chances of getting categories that people have photos for/interest in?

I like the best of the month, but I also like a more restrictive theme to increase the challenge.

Yes sorry, I meant to enter too but as I was off-line for ages I've been catching up on work stuff.

I agree with Rutty, summertime's always a bit hectic and I think keep it going as it is. I'll enter the next one too!

Okay, cool. What do people want to do for the next one? Redo/extend the in miniature contest, try a different theme, or do a best of the month?

'Best of the last few months' to get going again?

'Welsh Lakes' would be good for me.

Picture of your own spawn would be about the only photos I've taken in the past year and a half.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as Matt, but will see what I can dig out for a best of competition.

How about a best of the year with a deadline of November 30th, and entries taken any time this year up to that date accepted, and with December set aside for voting?

Best of the year sounds good smile

Need to regain some inertia I think. I take a photo (or two) every day for a 365 so should be able to contribute most months
