How much? Fascia boards and guttering

If you had to guess at what it might cost to replace fascia boards (cladding the soffits with plastic or replacing as appropriate) and remove and install new guttering to an average sized 70s 4-bed detached house with garage, what ball-park do you think it'd be in? I've never had this kind of work done before, so I'm keen not to be ripped off.
Apparently we have a choice of using replacement 18mm plastic fascia boards, or 10mm cladding boards (on to the existing wood fascias).
Confused!

It's not for our house, it's the late father-in-law's.

Not much. I'll consult my artisan friend tomorrow and get back to you with a price.

Lots of sucking in breath and twisted faces later........
Difficult for my friend to say without actually measuring up the job and pricing the individual items as its not the sort of job he normally does. Ask him how much to refit a bathroom and he'll be much more confident of providing an accurate figure.
On your behalf Sam, I *did* push him, until I finally said "If you heard that somebody paid £3k to £4k for such a job, would you surprised?". "Not at all" came the reply.
So there you are a ballpark figure albeit very much one he wouldn't want to be quoted on. That said, he probably has a better idea than anyone else on this forum (unless they've recently had such a job done on their 4 bedroomed detached that is)
He did suggest measuring up the amount of fascia required, the length of guttering downpipes etc, then sourcing the material on teh interweb to give you a vague idea of material costs - then ringing round local joiners to ask for a quote for labour only for this job. Add teh 2 together and stick on a bit more and then you're getting warm.
Conversely, get a few different quotes for the whole job - ask the guys if they can supply references.

ta. I've got a quote of around £2k which seemed expensive to me, but from the sounds of things it isn't - will take your advice on multiple quotes though.
Cheers
