Just taken the plunge and bought an iPad. Thought I'd buy direct from Apple as I have more faith in their delivery estimates and stock levels than say, Comet or PC World, so was surprised when my order confirmation stated that it's going to be despatched in 17 days time, then delivery a week later.

Spoke to (yes I picked up the bloody phone) someone in customer service who told me they were 'struggling with demand' and my estimate 'does include despatch and delivery times as stated on the website'. Yes, I replied, but you state it will be despatched between 1-2 weeks, and 17 days is three days more.

'Oh, yes' he said. I thought these guys were meant to be geniuses?

Will see what his manager comes back with on Monday but I'm not waiting three weeks for delivery, I'll go and buy one that's been knocked about a bit from PC World.

Mine said 1-2 weeks. I figured that with the current demand (and especially with the explosion at the Foxconn factory), it would take at least the two weeks, and it did, pretty much. I think delivery was quoted as a week, but it actually took a couple of days only. Their final estimate would that I'd get it 21 Jun at the latest. If I'd have been in yesterday, I'd have it now.

But as I said earlier, I wasn't in a hurry.

I don't mind waiting a couple of weeks but if they state 2 weeks as the latest it'll take and then tell me it's two and a half after my order goes in then it's inevitable I'm going to be a bit miffed. A bit of honesty on their sales page would be nice.

I ordered two iPads from Vodafone about three weeks ago and they arrived two days later. Was quietly impressed with that.

Yeah it seems a lot of their outlets have got them in stock: Comet, PC World etc. but they don't seem to have enough supplies for their own store. Guess I'll be cancelling it on Monday, I'm not waiting nearly a month for the bloody thing.
