Wordpress and MySQL

Friend has been notified by his hosts that he needs to upgrade his existing Wordpress MySQL v4 databases to v5.
Is this simply a case of exporting to sql, making a new database, importing and updating any changes to username etc in wp-config?
Will the template break?
He's running WP 2.9.x which will need upgrading. Best to do before or after MySQL upgrade?
Ta.

Sarah's the expert on this stuff but I shouldn't think there'd be any issues in what you've said. I've successfully moved WP sites from old Mysql V4 databases to v5 with no issues. I'd set up a temp account, move it then run any upgrades you need to WP and your plugins and if it's all working then repoint the domain.

A MySQL upgrade will take care of any changes it needs to make automatically.
V5 has been around for about 5 years, it is unlikely WP is doing anything incompatible.

And it needs doing to keep using WP too anyway as from 3.2 the minimum MySQL version required is 5.0.15
