Morning all. smile

I am looking to convert a series of WMV videos to MP4 or any other iPhone compatible video format.

Can any of you recommend a free Windows based software solution that is up to the job? I have tried a few but none of them worked and I am a bit dubious about others appearing in search results.

I'm on my phone do I can't give you a link, but google 'Handbrake'. Brilliant converter and has presets for each type of iphone screen.

Great post Jon! I have been following the effort since you started it, and although I have understood its purpose this post does a really great job solidifying the full rationale.

Not sure if I've ever tried WMV, but this has done the job for me with other file types:

This is supposed to be good: http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html

Terrible website and it has some weird referrer blocking thing, so can be tricky to download the app.

And as Rob says, Handbrake. More known as a Mac app, not sure about the Windows version, personally.

I use Quick Media Converter: http://www.cocoonsoftware.com/ - free and does the job for me.

If I was converting on gnu/linux then I'd go

$ ffmpeg -i <filename> outputfile.wmv

I believe that ffmpeg is available for windows as well.

Most Windows solutions are just a GUI frontend for ffmpeg. I think.
