I keep getting the 'blue screen of death', in other words the system crashes and I get an AEILAB.SYS errror.

I know this problem is something to do with needing to update drivers.  Is there any reliable (and free if possible) driver update software?  Not being a techie I don't feel confident to trawl through all the drivers on my machine.

Remove all USB devices from your PC (including modem if you're using a USB modem) and then try again. What happens?

And I wouldn't recommend 3rd party autodriver updaters. Instead I'd use your PC manufacturer's site to download the correct drivers for your PC. What manufacturer is it, and which model?

I agree with Dave

Is it crashing before you can get into windows, or randomly?

I can get into windows OK.  It just seems to crash randomly.

I bought this machine from PC specialist ... I will need to look out the paperwork to find out full details.

Are you doing the same sort of thing whenever it crashes? For example, are you using the same program each time it crashes?

Do you have a USB modem for your internet connection?

Great post Jon! I have been following the effort since you started it, and although I have understood its purpose this post does a really great job solidifying the full rationale.

Can be doing anything on machine not a specific program or whatever.  And it is a USB modem.
