I know some of you have been following my printer woes very closely ... and yes, I have decided to shell out on a new printer. Can anyone recommend a good colour printer for around £40 that doesn't have super expensive cartridges?

What do you want to do with? Photos? Long documents? Spreadsheets?
I like the Canon Pixma range personally. I'd steer clear of Lexmark.

I had a Lexmark once before it was pants indeed. My current borked printer did work well (HP Deskjet Colour D4360) but they don't make it any more.
I mainly print documents of varying sizes, photos (though not always on photo paper!), the odd spreadsheet, craft downloads (background papers, small images).

Cannon or HP - but HP comes with that much software you may drown in it.

I'd steer clear of Lexmark. Agreed, terrible machines and the software they require you to run is even worse. My dad is a photographer and uses a canon printer for prints and paperwork which he is happy with, although I can't be sure which range its from.

I had a Canon printer years ago but it was a bit noisy, hence my going for a Deskjet this last time. Will check out the Pixma range, ta muchly everyone

Hmmm... still not sure what to go for. I had a look at the Canon Pixma range and every review I read said it was OK but noisy when printing. One reason I went for Deskjets in the past was because of how quiet they are. Silly question, if a printer has wireless capability but you don't have wireless yourself, can you still use this printer? *** UPDATE **** I have had another look at and the Canon Pixma MG 5150 looks pretty good. I think I'm on to a winner

If the wireless printer has USB then yes you can use it wired. Most if not all do

Yay! Yes, today I shall buy my new printer ... this has almost been as nerve racking as buying new shoes! ***UPDATE*** Alas not bought 'owt so far. I have checked yet more reviews and am still in a quandary. I have a feeling I might go for the pixma mp495, or maybe another HP ... Besides my local Comet has a few display models going cheap. Oh what to do
