Well, at least you'll have time to build that DeLorean from Back To The Future that you always wanted.

Well, the line is there but there's no dial tone. I've got a horrible feeling that I'll wait three weeks for an engineer to come out, only to find that BT could have just flipped a switch at their end.

I think they disconnect unused lines at the exchange now, so it just needs reconnecting.

Thanks for the replies.

Tried BT and they can't speed things up. They checked my postcode ANC also confirmed that there isn't a dongle option available that would work.

Back to Mrs FC's 'jobs to do around the house' list then...

How could BT check people like 3 and T mobile, vodafone etc?

TT, WHAT A BL00DY USELESS SHOWER.

Mother has, on my recommendation because the WHICH comic said so, been with this lot for a couple of years and they just keep c**king things up.  The latest - she requested on-line billing and they keep changing it to paper billing, and we change it back and tell them so they refund the paper bill charges and then change it back to paper billing, etc.  And it goes on and on, etc.....

If you were with this abomination of a company and left, where would you go.

She has had her fill of them and wants to go some where else.

But where?  She has mastered the act of e-mail so use that but also needs to be able to phone people.  Doesn't want any TV package so cheap b/band plus phone would be ideal.

Any thoughts?

Plusnet, sir!

http://www.plus.net

I've been with them for a couple of years, and have just signed up with them again in my new flat. Good support (on the phone, Twitter, and their forums) and decent prices for both phone and broadband. And no TV packages to speak of!

I think the prices start at £6.49 for broadband and free evening and weekend calls: http://www.plus.net/packages/

(If you sign her up, by all means enter "dominicneagle" into the referral box!)

Cheers.

Your response has been forwarded to Mother who I suspect will tell TT to take a hike when the contract is up for renewal in a couple of months.

The equivalent package will be slightly cheaper but if it less hassle than the TT shower, then it will be cash well spent and as Mother is from Yorkshire, I think she would appreciate the company.

I'm nearly on the web, a few inches to the left and I'd enjoy lightning fast (outdoor) 3 dongle access....

Heard from a few clients using TalkTalk in town that they were all offline too, and their support calls ignored until finally with half the town complaining they finally fixed a fault at the exchange.

Unacceptable service and lousy, dishonest support.

There are cheaper deals available than the BT package we've gone for but it's going to be good to cut out the middle man. Ironically we'll still be paying BT only half what TalkTalk were charging though.

Welcome back to BT? We'll see, they've already caused me to be offline for a coue of weeks by grabbing the line early, but hopefully we'll be online again by the weekend.

Modem arrived this morning, and connection's just been switched on. This is my first post for weeks that isn't from a phone!

Impressed with the speed - it's flying along, though as I've been on dial up anything seems fast now. Easy to set up, and everything switched on when promised. Looking good so far BT...

I'll have to do some bloody work now though Sad

Heard from a few more local businesses who've had problems with TalkTalk and have changed provider. They'll have no customers left here at this rate.

I'm guessing they'll try this one on me next:

And Plusnet it is.

Mother now installed with them.  So smoothly, it was a dream (almost).  Just took a bit of doing to get e-mail to work but a call to their techy bods unearthed my error.

And, bother.  I missed you note about doing the referral l thingy.  Sorry. icon_redface

And since my last offering to the thread, Mother was found lying in the bath, no, don't panic, she is still breathing with the aid of a ventilator thingy in the RVI in the Toon.  She had managed to slip in whilst sitting on the side of the bath and was there for around 30 hours so as I typed the previous comment, she was actually lying in the bath unable to pull herself up or turn over.  Just got back from seeing here in ITU in the RVI.

She'll recover, the staff are very happy with her progress.  She's a tough old bird (as they say).

She had better recover, I've got her phone sorted, I want her to use the bleeding thing as well as the broadband!!!

Glad she'll be OK though. It's always a stark reminder of how easy us young'uns have it when you hear stories like that. I guess it's kinda why I want to start taking better care of myself, as I'll be the wrong side of 30 in a couple of years.

I think you've got that 6 upside down.

If the 6 is upside down, it means I'm old than my Mother!!

He just looks as though the 6 should be upside down Tongue

Update on Mum - off ITU and into a general ward today which is good news as I expected her to go into the High Dependency Unit. Don't understand it.

Thanks for the nice thoughts/messages.
