I've got a friend getting married in a few months. He's asked me about buying a cheap instant camera. I'm not sure yet what he wants to do with it, but he's had a look at getting the film and it seems rare and expensive.
I've never really used instant and have no clue how easy it is to get or what it costs.

I've had a cursory google and it does seem pretty pricey.
Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers.

Great post Jon! I have been following the effort since you started it, and although I have understood its purpose this post does a really great job solidifying the full rationale.

Polaroid stopped making instant film a couple of years ago, hence the rareness of it. There is a revival of the film going on via the impossible project and it is possible to buy their film and some expired polaroid film, but it's not cheap http://shop.the-impossible-project.com/shop/film you should be able to pick up a polaroid camera for next to nothing on ebay, but it's the film that will cost.

You could rent a dye sub printer for a couple of hundred quid plus media costs, but that's a lot more involved http://www.systeminsight.co.uk/Photo_Printer_Rental_Charges.htm

You could get a polaroid pogo printer and paper for it. Search amazon (via the affiliate link wink )

Cheers, Tony. That would make sense.
Polaroid is not something I've ever bothered with. We had one at work and the quality was rubbish and film expensive, but very useful as we needed instant photos.
Now polaroid is practically dead I find myself using 'polaroid' settings on my phone to take pictures. big grin

The idea was that wedding guests would take photos and write a message on them, replacing a guest book. Don't think they'll go for anything too techy (useful link though).

That looks interesting. Might be out of their budget, but seems simple and about as close to instant as you'll get without forking out for film. Cheers sps.

Fujifilm Instax? You can get a camera for about £50 on Amazon and the film for about £15 for 20 exposures. Both are available on Amazon.

Thanks for that. I'll see what he thinks.
