The idea of a netbook appeals, purely as it's portable and I can take it on a train and type articles etc but it's a bit expensive just to do that really.

Anyone suggest anything cheap for this purpose ? I guess the only criteria is that it's small and lightweight and I can type in Notepad and transfer via memory stick .. that would suffice.

Is there anything on the market?

My son is using the A4 version for his Maths degree. If you're just writing then shove in the ocr stuff and away you go!

That does look interesting though I'm not sure how well it would read my 'rarely use a pen these days' handwriting !!

How cheap is 'cheap'? There was another thread recently about a netbook from Asda. It was about £140 IIRC.

Great post Jon! I have been following the effort since you started it, and although I have understood its purpose this post does a really great job solidifying the full rationale.

I was going to suggest trying a Kindle but a quick Google reveals that the Kindle is poo for writing on
