Perhaps I should start a company called Derp Enterprises Inc., with Derp Derpington as CEO.

My problem is that I don't have the drive to chase work, so I'd end up forever "quiet".

I haven't paid for advertising or chased work since I started this company nearly ten years ago - once you've done a couple of sites the word of mouth thing starts and you build it up from there. Get a nice company site up, promote it with a bit of social networking and Bob's your sister. If anything I've mostly run away from work.

You're never quiet if you've got a web business anyway, even when there's no paid work to do you end up sorting out your PC, or your accounts, or your own website.

I've heard so many corkers (some of them on here) that involve nightmare clients, coupled with my own couple of clients in the past ringing me up and "derp derping" down the phone about silly things, that I'd pretty much wrap myself in a cocoon of turnips or something

Running your own business isn't for everyone, you need a certain mindset to pull it off, or in my case no other option apart from wheeling a few trolleys around Tesco car park. But to be honest being self-employed is no worse overall than working for someone else. I've had so many cock-for-brains managers and obnoxious bosses that I'm more than happy to keep working this way for as long as I can wangle it.

If you've got a good employer, are paid well and like your job I'd say stick with it. If someone offered me my first ever design job in Essex again then I'd jump at it, even with the lousy wages, but most of the jobs after that have been a nightmare and I'm much happier being self-employed than go anywhere near those again.

That's good, but if you're not enjoying the work and you're not getting paid the going rate then it might be time to move on. I can put up with 2 out of 3 but not 1.

FFS, does someone have a hole I can crawl into for the next year or two?

No sooner had arsecheeks hit seat this morning, I was being asked, "where are we this and that?", like I'm supposed to be concious at that time of day, or even give a monkeys.

I'm getting a bit sick of all this. Constant ridiculous deadlines and expectations, only to get all the work done, and then for The Powers That Be to decide they want to undo all my hard work and change everything.

I'm currently doing a "5-week project" that, so far, has taken 6 months. I might just as well have sat here picking my nose and scratching my balls for 5 and half of those months. I'm pretty sure that's what everyone else does in all the meetings they have about the project.

I have an OU module is starting soon and the official website opened up last week. I replied to someone's post in an intro discussion and - as he was clearly going to be very busy with two large modules running at once - said to him "Good grief. You are a sucker for punishment" followed by some friendly conversational chatter.

One of the forum moderators deleted part of my message and told me off, saying that we weren't allowed to apply "labels" to people just in case they took offence and prevented them from freely expressing their own ideas. I'm like "WTF?", except, I couldn't use that on there because it's offensive.

He edited my post so it now says:

Quote
Good grief. You are [label removed]

So, he may now think I've called him a twat or something.

I'm so annoyed. Still fuming about it today.

Yeah I was on a nerd forum a few weeks ago, and I used the expression "Christ almighty!" to show how flabbergasted I was at how slow someone claimed their internet connection to be. The mods then gave me an infraction for "discussion of a religious nature", and also for "political talk".

Not amused.

Like the Battlefield 3 servers I've played on where you get kicked for swearing in chat. Meanwhile, all around you the soldiers are effin' and blindin' like you wouldn't bloomin' believe.

Yeah I was on a [racist label removed] forum a few weeks ago, and I used the expression [offensive anti-Christian label removed] to show how [racist label removed] I was at how slow someone claimed their internet connection to be [ageist label removed]. The mods then gave me a [homophobic label removed] for [sexist label removed], and also for [dirty talk label removed].
