A friend of mine is setting up an art exhibition in order to raise money for a school in Africa where she worked as a volunteer for a while. The idea behind the exhibition is that people submit some of their 'art' be that photos, painting, poetry, music etc which is all created to fit a theme. I am looking to do something with photography but I am stumped by the theme.

The theme is:

"Instruction in youth is like inscription in stone"

Anyone got any ideas as to what I could shoot to represent that?

Not having access to some suitable stone or a chisel means that I can't cut this phrase into some stone!  wink1

Personally I don't want to get into "Digital Art", composites i.e. layering multiple images to create one image and really just want it to be one image that hasn't had loads of work done on it in Photoshop to create something that wasn't captured in camera. Also as the photo is intended to be sold I don't really want to take photos of kids/youths as it just gets too much hassle plus I don't really know anyone with kids.

Over to you

Perhaps you could take a photograph of an elderly person doing something that they learnt to do while they were a child. Or perhaps doing something that demonstrates a well-known ethic that they would have been taught as a kid.

I'm not really a creative person so I can't think of any examples off the top of my head, but you get what I mean. Or perhaps you could take a photo of kids "gathering round" to hear a story told to them by "an elder".

Bah, I don't know. Tongue
