It looks like Northumberland National Park might stump up for a webcam to be shared between us and another guest house and the pub at Twice Brewed.

For the sake of versatility, and to allow a number of different views over the months I think wireless is a must. Its just that when I search for "wireless webcams" on the web, I seem to be inundated with cctv security cams. All I want is something that takes a nice colour pic every 5 minutes or so and will slot easily into an existing wireless network.

Any ideas?  Cool

Ebuyer.com sell them

Thanks Matt. Most of them were flippin expensive! That apart, most seemed aimed at security roles - ie movement sensors and video recording etc. I'm just wanting something simple to take a picture of a hill every few minutes.

How cheap are you looking at?

The thing is, anything with wireless in is going to be geared for security so will have these added functions.

How about a normal wired camera and use powerline adapters to connect it to your router?

It would be like this:

router -> into powerline adapter which is plugged into power socket, then power socket at camera location with a powerline adapter -> to camera - no need for wireless coverage at all then and you can get a cheaper camera, although you are then paying for the adapters.....

Basically you could then have the camera anywehre you have a power socket.

Id recommend one of these if your going wired: http://www.isec-solutions.co.uk/P/Panasonic-BL-C101-IP-Camera(59).htm have about 20/30 of them at work. See one here: http://weather.wolverley.worcs.sch.uk

Clever lad! Never thought about that. Food for thought indeed...  banana

ps - on the subject of price, remember this would be a grant from the hard-up National Park.
