Am I asking too much of IE6?

In the middle of coding up a template. You'll be able to find the current site if you google, and the client wants to retain the overall layout, colour scheme and page architecture (so the sliding side panel for example). They also hate their current homepage, so this is an attempt to make it a bit more engaging. The images need a little treatment yet to give them a bit more *pop*...
Anyway, it's all looking fine apart from IE6. I've got two issues:
1) A weird bug where a gap opens up in-between the accent image at the top and the navigation
2) When you move your mouse, stuff seems to disappear momentarily
I should say that I had intended to limit the parallax code to IE7 and above, but I thought I'd see if it could work before doing so.
[Now solved, link removed - ta]
So, am I asking too much of IE6? Any pointers on the gap that's opened up?
TIA!

I don't see that. A lot of things jiggle about when you mouse over them (quite distracting) but that happens in Firefox too.

Thanks Dave
The jiggling is much more pronounced for me in IE6, and some of the layers disappear. It's not quite subtle enough yet, but will enjoy further refinement, so hopefully wont be too distracting in the end.
Cheers
