HI All,

We've had a bumper crop of plums this year, so as well as freezing some down, making jam, selling plums... I wondered if anyone had any old family recipes or other ideas what to do with the plums....? Now is this inviting some weird and wonderful ideas.... I hope not...

I'd go for the crumble. My mum made a lovely nectarine crumble when we were last down from the nectarines off their tree, I'm sure plum would go just as well. Also most recipes containing fresh fruit would probably easily be adapted for plums. I make a gooseberry streusel cake and you could put plums in instead. Can dig the recipe up if you want it.

Don't forget you can freeze most cakes too, so you could cook a few and freeze them up for the winter smile

Oh crumble is a good shout. We have a tree in our side garden which has and is still producing a load of plums! The better half has made jam already. smile

We've had a bumper crop of damsons too now, and the oldies (yep, even older than me!) want me to make use of their 10 acre orchard. But it's ONLY got about 20-30 damson trees.... just too many to deal with, and it is such a shame to see things go to waste....

We've also got a few apple trees, wife made some homemade Apple Turnovers. Absolutely fab!! And we've got plenty of plum, damson, forest fruits, strawberry jam, and apple jelly. I'm even trying Blueberries, Karaka blackberries, and black currants this year too... We need a room of freezers, but the wife wont let me get any.... I suggested putting one or two in the kids' rooms... that went down well, lol.

Damson Jam? My Dad made that before pulling down the damson tree (think it was badly located). I think damson jam is quite rare (could be completely wrong... not my cuppa tea so not sure!)
