Author Topic: iOS4 update for 3gs - problems?  (Read 698 times)

I'm usually pretty reluctant to update software, if it aint broke etc...but I've got my eye on a photography app for my iPhone 3gs and it requires iOS4 instead of iOS3 which I'm currently using.

I'd read here and there about performance issues on the phone after upgrading, and had a reply to a Twitter post earlier by someone warning me not to do it as their 3g phone had become almost unusable since upgrading.

Has anyone else upgraded their 3gs, and if so, has it been a trouble free experience?

Thanks for reading.

The only real problems that have been reported about upgrading to IOS4 is with the 3G because the CPU on the 3G is a lot slower than on the 3GS. I've only got a 3G and put IOS4 on it and yes I can certainly tell it's slower than it used to be and sometimes it is annoyingly slower but a friend has the 3GS and upgraded and couldn't really notice any performance loss. If you had a 3G I'd say it's 50/50 as to if it's worth upgrading or not but with a 3GS I'd say it's more like 90/10 in favour of upgrading.

Thanks for the replies. I've checked a few forums and there seems to be a lot of issues with the 3g upgrades, but not so many for the 3gs. The main one seems to be dropping calls and rebooting after about 5 minutes into a call.

I kind of get that on my 3GS, but only if the signal drops, which annoying is right where I sit in the lounge! Only usually happens when I'm chatting to my Mum, short calls are never an issue and certainly not 5 mins into it, more like 55 mins! It's probably a good reminder to stop nattering and get on with stuff wink However I think one of the next two upgrades were meant to fix it, but I've not run them yet.

Thanks Sarah.

Might have to hold on for a bit if it is an issue and wait for a fix, as I use my phone for all my work stuff and clients like to spend hours on the phone chewing the breeze.

I'll let you know if either of the upgrades fix the issue smile
