HI All
I had a client contact me with the idea of setting up a number of sites, well he says one at the moment but I can see this spiralling, and what he wants to do is just have domains redirected to his business site; 301 redirect I guess over meta redirect. But this is old hat/black hat stuff isn't it....? This is the same guy who took on the services of an seo company in manchester, and has observed a large increase in spam. He says he wants a domain for a particular product and have it redirect to his business site, guess he's been doing a wee bit of reading on some seo tactics, lol.

If the domain has a 301 redirect then the main search engines (at least) will just follow the redirect and pick up the end result. They don't index every domain going, just the final, non redirected page.

So no, it's not worth it. At the very least he would need the domain pointing to a page which then links to the site, but that's doorway pages and it's not something I'd recommend.

HI sarah,

I didn't think it was a recommended thing to do either, but it's trying to convince someone of it. I really didn't see the point in the whole thing.  If his investment in the SEO company was worth it then there really shouldn't be the requirement for this sort of thing. I can only say that my spam to webmaster@blahblh has increased substantially since the seo guys were involved. Had almost none before.
