Hmmm...had an email earlier today, and a follow-up phonecall from a development company in India offering their services.

The call mentioned my email account that their introductory enquiry had been sent to, and it's a temporary account I set up yesterday. It's not guessable, such as an 'info@', and I've only ever used it once online, for a Twitter account contact details.

They state "email will not be publicly displayed" so I can only assume that Twitter have passed on my details, unless they've picked it up some other way?

Very unlikely. Can you imagine the media fallout?

I've got dozens of Twitter accounts for this and that with special email addresses for each.

Never had a spam to any of them.

So how was it picked up?

It's only linked to my Twitter account, which is for my business. My company URL is on my Twitter details which would be where they found my contact phone number.

I can't think of any other way that they could have picked up the email address except via Twitter.

IIRC you can give your mobile to be able to send messages to your twitter account via SMS.

Did the twitter account with the details have any external apps given permission to use it? Not sure if they can potentially grab data through it.

Hmm, I think it's linked to a couple, maybe they grabbed the email address that way.
