Xampp Question
«
on:

I've got xampp installed on both a PC and my Mac as I want to build a website but only have a bit of time per day on both machines. Therefore I want to be able to copy the site I'm building on my PC so that I can continue working on it with the Mac and visa versa.
I know that in terms of HTML files etc that I just need to copy the contents of the htdocs folder but what about databases? Can I just copy the \mysql\data\my database folder or do I need other files like something for the users of the database?

You should just be able to copy the relevant db files in the bin/data directory over. Providing you're using the same version of MySQL on both machines it should work fine. Just set up the user account to be the same on both and then the logins will work fine too.

Cheers Sarah will give it a go. Also is there a way to set xampp to use a domain name rather than just the localhost one? What I mean is can I edit some file so that when I enter
www.mysite.com
I'll see my development site running in xampp? It would just make moving the site to the live server later a bit easier but no biggie.

You should be able to edit your hosts file to make your computer/browser point any chosen domain to go to localhost instead (127.0.0.1). Never tried it myself but it should work.
