Video Hosting
«

Customer wants a site that may use a lot of video.
My first response for my type of customer is host them on youtube! But are there any other ways of doing this without incurring horrendous bandwidth use?
Ta.

You could use Youtube, and then use the codes to remove the links at the end of the video, no direct link to YouTube during playback etc.

Punters want to know if there are alternatives to Youtube. Maybe the brand? Don't really know.

Vimeo is pretty good but there are limits on uploads - think it's 500mb a week for free accounts, or you can go for a paid account with less restrictions and full 1080

Just been having a look at the fasthosts site. Seems to be rather generous in terms of space and bandwidth (unlimited).
What's the catch?

They have high resource user policies that allow them to suspend your site if you use too much of their unlimitedness. At their discretion they can refuse access to the service if too many downloads occur. If you want to cancel they make you jump through hoops and give up a kidney. If they want to move you to another server they reserve the right to do it without notice (fine if the server you're on dies, but they don't qualify this at all), risking downtime while you try to get name servers updated. If you're looking at the unlimited dedicated server package then it's served via a very limited 10Mbps connection.

stay away from Fasthosts! If the videos are commercial you won't be able to use the free option on vimeo.

Thanks Mr A and Slee, if it's too good to be true then it usually is.
