Is that the a-photo-a-day thing? I'd do but I don't think I'd remember  biggrin

I've taken a couple of shots but not uploaded them yet. Failed miserably in 2008 and didn't even try in 2009 wink

I started back on 1st November, but I've been ill for most of December so had to stop. I'll probably just carry on once we're better and simply lose a month. Frustrating but I think I and others would get bored of the same blanket or box of tissues every day!

Not sure if I'll get time to do one, but for those who do, feel free to start a thread in the photography section to post your flickr pics and keep yourselves going with a bit of peer pressure. smile

That's a good idea. I've always dismissed trying this as some days I can't be motivated enough to look at my camera let alone use it. I think I've taken a photo each day so far, so I might give it a go (although, I might just end up with 365 pictures of my bearded dragon big grin ).

Great post Jon! I have been following the effort since you started it, and although I have understood its purpose this post does a really great job solidifying the full rationale.

I've started mine using some ropey images for the first 3 days.

I will do that, but how's it going to work, a new post per day or just keep updating the first post?

I reckon just update the first post, keeps it all in one place then eh?

So, one thread per person or one thread with one constantly updated post per person IYSWIM?

one thread per person, if we all put then in together that would an awful lot of pictures to load.

I think it would be good to have one thread, and each person replies to it every day - in terms of images, once one person gets to mid january they will have a full page of images anyways so it wouldn't be any more to load either way.

That way you get them all in one place and using unread topics, they could jump to the latest posts.

And the thread will become quite eclectic and give each person visibility of others at which point they may also get inspiration and ideas to keep them going.

What d'ya reckon?

That's would work, but how about setting up another Dotdragnet group on flickr for 365 shots and then get that flickr bot thing to fetch the pictures each day?

Yeah I thought about that, then  I thought that it would make it more of a community thing if you posted the pics yourself, as it could be construed as a dumping ground for pictures if it was automated.

Plus I think it would be ideal for you guys to maybe talk about what the photograph is about and why you took it (apart from to fill another day in) which is where the interest would come from the non-participating members. A picture is a picture, your reasons for taking it are an entirely different thing and I think it would be really interesting. First post by each of the contributors could be about why they are doing a 365.

Does that sound reasonable?

I may be a little late here with the suggestion but what about using the front end to showcase 365's? you've got WordPress installed, you add a bit of bumpf on the front page about DDN, and then can easily show the last X posts. The you have a category called 365 and you create a child category for each person who wants to participate. Then the persona creates a post per photo. I creates content for the front end of DDN and allows them to add their description and allows people to comment.
