We had a new boiler and heating system put in earlier this year after the 20-year old system before was beginning to flag. And leak. And not be very warm. It was a month of expense, upheaval, hassle and dust - I bloody hated every second of it.

Just had our gas bill in for Sept-Dec, my heart sank when I saw it on the doormat.

For (just gas) this period last year it was £179.

This year: £33. Is that a drop of 83%?  banana

Now, if I could bring my electricity down that much, it would be wonderful  Tongue

Wow, that's a massive saving! We've got a condensing boiler that's supposed to be economical, but is more expensive to run that the combi in our old house.
It's a British Gas boiler though so I'm sensing a conspiracy.  evil

You've also reminded me about our water bill. I saw it this morning tiding up. I meant to bring it into work but forgot. Apparently the last reading was estimated but they've now took a manual reading so the bill is accurate.
It'll be an interesting conversation when I ask exactly how they took a reading from our water meter...

... we haven't got a water meter!  banana

Great post Jon! I have been following the effort since you started it, and although I have understood its purpose this post does a really great job solidifying the full rationale.

We've got a combi now, and it's cheaper as the old one was really really awful.

Just switched suppliers, and even managed to get on a cheaper tariff after a bit of 'discussion' on their complains line Tongue
