I've got some DVDs and I want to rip them to my HD, any tips of which software/formats to use? Looking for a quick solution as well  Tongue

Last times I did it, I used DVD decrypter but it appears to be too old now Huh?

DVD Decrypter is still good.

I recently ripped every DVD I own to disk and used DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink and RipIt4Me.

I used DVD Shrink to rip just the movie - I hate waiting for menus to load just to watch a bloody film - and in the preferences you can set it to automatically only include English audio and subs if that's up your street.
Open up the DVD with DVD Shrink and either do a full back up - you can set the compression level or just turn off re-compression (the best way if you are not worried about space or copying to a DVD5), or do a reauthor and just drag the actual movie onto a new DVD and Shrink will create new ifos etc so you only have the film.

Some films have copy protection. That's where RipIt4Me comes into play. That'll use pass some settings into DVD decrypter to rip the disc, then open it up in Shrink where you can do what you want. It's also good for series as you can do a full backup but force a jump to main menu.

Great post Jon! I have been following the effort since you started it, and although I have understood its purpose this post does a really great job solidifying the full rationale.
