my gf's computer won't boot into windows it gets as far as loading the cursor and it just sits there.
same if i try to boot into safe mode.
after a few tries it eventually boots into windows but is really really slow.
some parts like system restore just won't load they just sit there and eventually crash.
ive managed to run a virus check using avast but it has not found anything.

any ideas?

Run a repair with the Vista disk? Else GAPOS like XP or maybe even Win 7.

I'm told this is normal for Vista.

Load in safemode and run a disk check. I've had similar issues when the security files have become corrupted.
