I have a problem with Word 2000

I wonder if anybody can help me.

Word, will start up by clicking on a word document or from Start / Programs.

When you try to do anything, Print, Edit, or just move the page up or down I get " Micosoft Word is not responding"

I Have

1) Run repair
2) Uninstalled Office
3) Run Norton Works
3) Run Ashampoo WinOptimizer
4) Reinstalled Office

Still the same

The rest of Office works without a problem

Thanks chaps I think you have found the problem but not the answer.

1) I found Normal.dot but it was ~$Normal.dot
2) I deleted ~$Normal.dot
3) rebooted
4) ~$Normal.dot was back with Normal.dot
5) I renamed ~$Normal.dot to $Normal-1.dot
6) Rebooted
7) I now have Normal.dot, ~$Normal.dot, ~$Normal-1.dot

The problem is still there

Now What

Thanks Chaps you put me on the right road to cure the problem, this is what I did.

Problem with Word 2000

Reinstalling Office or Word does not fix the problem

It could be an error with Normal.dot

If Word cannot locate a normal.dot file try doing a search for ~$Normal.dot

You may find it in C:/ settings folder / your user name / application data / Microsoft folder / templates folder
With Word closed, find and delete normal.dot or ~$Normal.dot or both files on your system.

If you have Windows XP, you may need to turn on viewing of system files in order to find your normal.dot. To do so, open Windows Explorer, and go to Tools-Folder Options. Choose the View tab, and choose to Show Hidden Files and Folders

After you have deleted normal.dot in templates, launch Word. If the problem is not resolved

With Word closed, use Windows Explorer to find the Word Startup folder, usually C:\program files\Microsoft\Office\Word\Startup.

Make sure there are no files, if there is delete all files and also in XLSTART

Visit again templates and delete Normal.dot or ~$normal.dot before you launch Word

It worked for me

Thanks again
