HI
Well I've just about had enough of the world.... blooming Dell laptop with XP has died and I am having to use the wife's HP with Vista. 18 months old almost to the day as well, and it just went fritz, and wont boot, absolutely nothing, nada and guess who hasn't backed up for a few weeks....looming heck!!! So how long wpould you expect a laptop to live?
Guess it's time to contact Dell... after all the hassle I had immediately after buying the thing too....

My previous laptop, a Toshiba, lasted about 4-5 years. I sold it to someone, so it may still be running.

I had an aldi one, a Gericom, for 3 and a half years before it died. I am totally surprised with the Dell though.

My work Dell has never had any problems - around 18 months old with XP on it, unlike the toshiba I had before that which ended up like Triggers broom...

I've got a 6 year old Evesham here that's still going, though you can't do much with the slow old thing.

I've currently got a Samsung Netbook (NC10), 8 months old but seems the screen connection is going as I keep getting a white screen. A little wiggle gets it back. As soon as I've stopped playing Travian I'm going to get it repaired.

I've got a six year old Vaio that still works perfectly happily (although it's dog-slow - needs to be rebuilt with a fresh install of XP).

Well did a bit of loosening screws and messing about without really doing anything, and it now seems to be working fine....
