photoshop query

just a quick question about selecting a layer that has a 1px stroke.
if i command click or control click on the layer it doesn't select the stroke.
i usually set up some guides and select it that way but is there an easier way?
I have tried using grow but doesn't seem to do it either.

How is the stroke applied? Is it a layer effect?

Great post Jon! I have been following the effort since you started it, and although I have understood its purpose this post does a really great job solidifying the full rationale.

Sorry Slee, I missed your reply somehow.
Yeah, you can't select layer effects. Technically they don't really exist - as a raster that is.
To select them you'll need to turn the effect into actual pixels that you can select. I don't have photoshop to hand at the moment, but you either right click on the 'f' icon on the layer, or select from the layers options and there is a choice like 'create layer'. This will rasterise the effect on a separate layer so you can select it or merge it with original layer etc.
