The 'moved' threads are a tad annoying, "this thread has been moved too" etc - if it's been moved, surely we don't need a secondary redirect, just a waste of clicks - that post just lives somewhere else as the forum isn't that big - shouldn't be hard to find! That's down to whether the admin/mod decides to leave a link. It's an option when they move it. If someone has genuinely made a mistake I tend to leave a link. If they're being an idiot or deliberately posting in a popular area rather than the correct one I don't. Cool, I understand that - just wondered if their needs to be a full post for it though, the outside topic says " Moved: XXX Thread Title" couldn't that just link straight to the new topic's home? Tiny point I know

From the css: /* Posts and personal messages displayed throughout the forum. */ .post, .personalmessage { width: 100%; overflow: auto; line-height: 1.3em; } The overflow line is throwing redundant vertical scroll bars in some posts, as far I could see there is no height declared so removing it should solve it and not have any side effects.

I've removed it. Looks fine in FF and IE7. If it's suddenly gone screwy for anyone on Opera or some older browser let me know.

In the profile settings no matter what I do, ticking or unticking the boxes, I can't hide my e-mail address. Its currently ticked as do not show but in the member list is still showing as a wee envelope. And second one - I've unticked every 'notify me' option and selected 'do nothing' but I still get e-mails whenever a PM arrives. How do I stop that? /> Cheers Hippies.

I think it's security based. I can see all emails including some that are missing on your list.
I think the reason you can see yours is because you're logged in as you. Let me log in as my test pleb and see.
edit - Yep. If I log in as a normal user I can't see your email.

I can't get into this setup, I'll be honest.
Active topics: Posts disappear, can't track.
Sections/Categories: Prolly need to get used to them but one of the oft-quoted criticisms was cliqueyness(SP?). Though Nige's photo's adorn my bedroom walls, not sure if having a forum in his name is condusive to a new open approach... I mean, I don't even really know what it's supposed to mean TBH.
Oh yeah, really miss the quick reply box 'n' all!

You have to enable it in your profile settings. It's not perfect - the afore-mentioned quote button then opens up your reply in the quick reply box rendering easy smilie access harder - but it's there.

and how do you quote someone, without having to write the quote tags yourself? Also, in the standard reply box just paste in the text you want to quote, highlight it and hit the "Insert Quote" button. It'll add the tags either side of the highlighted text. This also works for other tags too hth

I don't think the current jumble of categories makes much sense, with software lumped in with coding and accessibility and usability, and so on; and no separation between client-side and server-side coding, other than some people think the client-side stuff needs to go into on the web and others in tech stuff. The category names and descriptions are a bit unhelpful too. It seems like more thought has been given to general chatter than to anything else.
Can these be organised a bit better? I think it'd help us know where to put things as well as helping visitors to know where to find things.

The categories were/are a first draft. We're trying to cut down on the number of "barren" forums whilst still covering everything. The idea was to break up what we do "whether web design, coding, image design" into logical groups. Coding is coding regardless of the language, drawing pretty pictures share techniques whether for web or print etc. Is that too confusing or is it just that the descriptions aren't clear enough?
How would people like it broken down baring in mind we don't want loads of empty forums?

G&D Yawners bit
_ Technical Web Design (code and feedback) Web Ideas & reviews (AIS/Host reviews etc) Hardware & Software Photography
keep them as few as possible. anything else can go in the new sensible G&D to maintain a good level of posts in there that make us look like nice sensible people, before they see yawners bit. Which they can ignore if they want too

You'll probably get a different variation for every member that answers But: - General Category General Discussion Nige's nasty gaff Practical Advice (if not just put back into GD&N and/or Nige's nasty gaff)
- The Creative Side Graphic design, art, painting - anything (else) creative Photography On the web - Web related stuff - visual aspects of website design, sitecheck
- The Tech Side Client-side development - including accessibility and usability Server-side development - including server management (General) Computer support (hardware and software) - maybe including hosting support and other stuff like that
- The Business Side (Almost) Anything business related Marketing - including search engine stuff

You'll probably get a different variation for every member that answers True but I'd rather get a bit of a discussion going before changing it and having a few different people then go, "I don't like it." Take for example matt's suggestion. That doesn't work for me (personally) as it has Web Design and Web Ideas & reviews. That straight away removes a place for non-web programmers to post questions. Where do they post? Hardware & Software? However the general idea of stripping back the number of forums is the direction we were heading in.
