Been asked to organise a conference this November for up to (a possible) 6,000 attendees.

Given all the media attention and warnings of a theoretical 100,000 new cases of swine flu, per day, in the winter, I'm begining to have major doubts.

I have to consider the possibility that staff at the venue might go off sick; exhibitors not turning up; transport issues (trains whatever), plus; attendance numbers possibly dipping.

So I'm just wondering if you would attend such a public affair, assuming you still hadn't contracted the virus by then?

It wouldn't cross my mind not to go.

if it were pertinent to my business or professional skills, or if it were something I found interesting - yes.

Unless I had a major illness already or the transport system was in meltdown I'd go.

The only reason I'd stay away would be if it was me that was ill to start.

I've got an 8 month old, so to be honest I'd probably give it a miss.

Um, thanks all - I've advised we call it off.

Perhaps if I turned the question round and asked: Would you throw your money at holding a conference in winter?

Academic now, I know, but I suspect the answer would be different, no?

Now that is a different question. It would be risky stumping up the cash this far away. Maybe closer to the time but that's not usually how these things work.

It wasn't a tamiflu conference was it?
