HI All

We live in a beautiful valley, but when it comes to reception for both telly and mobiles, we are at a loss. We've lost a few channels recently on our Freeview, and I expect we need to get a high gain aerial. So I wondered whether anyone could offer any advise on a good quality aerial? I see there are a few on ScrewFix, just unsure which to go for. Although I would prefer something which is loft mountable as I don't fancy going out on our roof...

Not too long ago I asked for a quote from an aerial company, and they would fit a high gain on a pole for maximum signal for £150. I didn't think that was too bad.
I've tried aerials in the loft before and struggled to get a good reception. You can probably get away with it if you're in a good reception area, but otherwise it's always better to get it mounted externally if you can.

Great post Jon! I have been following the effort since you started it, and although I have understood its purpose this post does a really great job solidifying the full rationale.

I've got a high gain aerial in the loft, held up by bits of string.... although it only really serves as a backup for sky, the reception is excellent. It is also generally unaffacted by the weather.

We have a standard yagi aerial in our loft, it has been OK for the last few years although we never got ALL Freeview channels. But now it is really bad, losing channels left, right and centre.
