So a new client (gardener) comes round to discuss his site, having told me on the phone that he already has a logo. This turns out to be a drawing on a piece of paper which he wants me to create. He will then use the logo on his van. He's a nice guy, just lost hos job, starting up by himself, so I accept this and don't even change the cost. I mean I'm no logo designer, but how hard can it be, right  wink1 However, I've just realised I have no idea what quality is needed to be able to get a design put on a van. Any ideas?

You'll need to vectorise it in illustrator, freehand or similar, so that it scales effectively.

If you're using Illustrator, then convert the logo text to outlines (select your text, then 'type/outlines' from the menu) when you save/export the finished files. There's probably something similar in most vector packages, and that way the printer won't be searching for the font you've used, or substituting it with something that doesn't look so good.

That is one of the best pieces of advice I ever got - convert to outlines and export to PDF!
