Hi all ... and ooops .. been a while since I was here last !!

I've downloaded an 800+ meg .wmv file and I'd like to have it on DVD in a format that is standard for DVD players ..... I thought I'd found one and it seemed to convert but for some reason I can't seem to burn it to DVD ....

any ideas as the best route to take ?

thanks

There are serveral ways but for the last few years Ive always used http://www.vso-software.fr/products/convert_x_to_dvd/ easy to use and plenty of extra options if you really want them.

Thats now very rare thanks to Western Digital's Media Player  smile

Thanks ....

Have run the file which seemed to convert ok. Now trying to burn it but keep getting a 'please insert media to continue' message ... I've tried a number of writeable DVD disks and it does it with them all.

These are the same brand of DVDs that I've recorded on using my standard DVD recorder and they work .... is there something I need to do with them before burning to them from my PC ?

when i used to use tmpgenc  or similar programs it would create a video_ts and other folders for me which could then be burnt using nero or similar using the dvd_video option.

What program have you used, and what format/structure is the file in .vobs?

I couldn't actually find the files this one converted but another bit of software did create the video_ts folder.  Looking around, it appears it may be that the DVDs I;m using may not be compatible with my DVD burner .... I'm using DVD-R .. apparently DVD+R is recommended .... ... bit of a pain though !!!

Yes DVD+R are more compatible and are the only ones I use now after having many coasters and issues with DVD-R on different burners.

If you have the video_ts etc it sounds like its all fine and you could always test it opening the folder though vlc etc to test.

mmm DVD+R made no difference .. I'm sure it's not a problem with the conversion .... basically I'm getting a message saying there's no disk in the drive .. which there is ... I've used the drive to burn CDs in the past and it is a DVD rewriteable drive so no idea what's going on ... most frustrating Sad

OK .. mini progress ... I used Roxio copy software and it didn't recognise any DVD+R disks but it did recognise some DVD-R ones .... but came up with instant errors on most of them ...

However on one of them (same make as the others) it did start to copy and got arpound half way through before ejecting it. ON putting the disk in teh DVD player, there was an item on it but it was one I had recorded before so I presume it simply ran out of space ... interstingly, I;d actually finalised that one on my DVD player .. bizarre

Get nero 7. It will encode most formats and burn to dvd in a wizard. You can customize menu screens etc with it too.

don't think that's the problem though I'll certainly have a look at it (is it free ?) .... just before I had to dash out last night I tried a DVD-R and it wouldn't burn to it so I tried to finalise it in my DVD recorder but as it was blank, it wouldn't do it so I recorded 10 secs of TV then finalised it.

I then put it back in and tried to burn to it and it started to burn it again .... funny thing is that at exatly the same point as the previous one (49%), it ejected it and asked me to put a disk in ...... completely baffled !
