iPhone text help

On the iPhone, when you text someone it always puts it into a thread, even if it has nothing to do with previous texts, which is most annoying. Has anyone come across a way of turning that off so the texts are just on their own and only ones where you've pressed 'reply' are threaded? Or is this an example of Steve's Way is the Only Way?
