Went out to Fairford yesterday for the Air Tattoo, took me four hours to get there from Oxford - well it is about 35 miles! Missed the first couple of hours of the show, but what was left was pretty good with the red arrows and the BBMF and various others.

Here's a couple of pics, and if you're interested there are more here http://www.artzam.com/zenphoto/index.php?album=RIAT+Fairford

And one wasn't so lucky.....

I was using a 70-200 f2.8L, mind you it was tiny in comparison to a lot of the others, there were quite a few 600mm monsters floating about and a lot of 100-400 L's as well.

Could have done with a longer range on some of the smaller planes, but it was ample for the big ones like the lanc and the hercs.

And the other problem was panning - I have a habit of panning farther than my body can support me, so looked a right twat as I nearly collapsed in a heap following the red arrows big grin

Would love a bit of L-glass but I'll just have to do with my small collection of pleb lenses ;¬)

No idea how people can afford 600mm monsters. Or even how they can lift them horizontal without a tripod!

Health and safety all the way with you isn;t it! wink

It was a bombing run by the tornados (in reality it was a few buckets of petrol in the ground) they had soldiers on the ground fighting an imaginary enemy with the awacs circling and controlling the hercs, chinook and tornados, with a couple of other planes being baddies etc.

Felt the heat from it though when it went up!

As long as someone had done a risk assessment and developed a safe system of work then that's OK. Tongue

Nice pics.

Just love the ww2 planes.

Me too. WW2 planes were bollox scary, both for the enemy on the ground and the pilot flying it. Zero protection from gunfire for the pilot, but they'd rain hell on anyone on the ground.

Sorry for not spotting this thread earlier - I think I must have been in Wales installing kitchens etc at the time.

All of these are fab photos Tony. This one in particular you could *easily* sell as stock or to a magazine directly - it's crying out for it. Very very good composition, nice leading lines and perfect space left for copy. smile If you did this on a 30D (is it?) or better, you could/should get some more high quality images together and approach some of the good stock providers.

Cheers Sam - just noticed your reply.

not sure how much I cropped that one, I'll have to check - most of the others are cropped due to only having 200mm at the longest length and they are up in the sky a bit. So not sure if it would be high enough quality for stock, the camera is, but the crop probably isn't if that makes sense.

Drop it down to 72dpi, and it'd be good for web-use at the minimum at that size...
