Bulb wattages

Been doing up a room and fitted some low-voltage halogens in a wall, they're 20W MR11 jobbies but are a bit bright and dazzling as they're at head height. The individual lights are rated at 20W, can you just put say 10W bulbs in instead or would that bugger up the transformer as its geared up for a 100W (5 x 20W) total load?

Shouldn't be an issue, just means you'll be using a bigger and likely more expensive transformer for the job.

Could you not get a diffuser for the bulbs to reduce the local intensity without reducing the amount of light?

Thanks Chris - I'll give it a go.
They're recessed jobbies so the diffuser thingy won't work.
