My friend is thinking about applying for a job which (I believe) could go up to about 25 grand per year, but she doesn't know what that'd be likely to pull in after tax and I'm hopeless with numbers so no help there. Can anyone give a rough idea? She said its a PAYE job, paying out once every month if that helps...

Somewhere around that yes. But bear in mind that it will depend on her tax code (if she's married etc) and what she's earned up until the point of obtaining that job. Also Pensions will affect it.
