I'm currently looking for two 22" monitors (budget around £350 so £175 each), and getting totally baffled by the different reviews. I've currently got a shortlist of four.

Should I be looking for a HDMI input? Full HD-size? I've been warned off the Samsung pebble range, but is there any other I should avoid. I decided to look up various PC-mag's lab test, and they are all quite out of date, so feature monitors that no-one stocks. I'm willing to buy from Amazon, Ebuyer, Dabs - or anything with a decent returns policy...

I was worried about dead-pixels, however I should be able to return a monitor under the distance selling regs, as long as it's fit for sale rather than trying to go along with the manufacturers "guidelines". I think.  biggrin

Legally you wont be able to return it under the distance selling regs if you've used it, which clearly you'll have to do to find out if there are any dead pixels.

I'll let somebody else help with the recommendations as I'm not up to date with the latest monitors.

Are you sure about that - it seems highly unlikely? Under those regs you can return things that are not fit for purpose which for a lot of things you can only discover by using.

Yes, I am totally sure that returning something that is not fit for purpose is not the same as returning it under the distance selling regulations. I've had lengthy meetings with trading standards about this (and other legal issues) and have spent time with our solicitors to verify our position on this very issue.

I also have it here in writing (From Trading Standards) that our electrical products (Granted we don't sell monitors) are not suitable for return under the distance selling regulations if they have been used.

Different people at Trading Standards may give a different opinion on this, which is why I requested that they seriously consider what they have advised me and that they put it in writing.

Of course a judge may have a different opinion if it went to court.

However this is slightly irrelevant as I'm sure if Ben bought from Amazon, Ebuyer or Dabs I doubt they'd check it too much to see if it had been used and would probably give him his money back under the distance selling regs anyway.

If it was me, I'd probably go for the Samsung and from your list it would probably be the T220

Amazon had an offer on an Acer 2 weeks ago for £130. Got my FIL one. Lovely screen, what I've seen of it. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-22-inch-Widescreen-Crystalbrite-Monitor/dp/B0009PTD9U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1232097777&sr=8-1

In the end, I went for two of these:

I'm really delighted with them, full HD size res 1920 x 1080, VGA/DVI/HDMI ports and they look awesome with the Mac Flurry screensaver (ported to windows).

 clap
