We've just returned from a week away to find that our fridge freezer has died*.  It was guaranteed for 12 months, we've had it 13. Sad

*There is power to it but the fridge isn't cold and the freezer is quite warm.  What would that be? unsure

I'm hoping our home insurance policy will cover it. On quick glance, we're definitely covered as far as the contents (food) of the fridge freezer are concerned.  Is that generally the case?

The smell of half cooked frozen goods is not pleasant.  no

*edit* Just looked over the policy again.. £250 excess.  What was I thinking?  ¬¬

So your fridge wasn't stuffed to the gills with prime fillet steak?

Likely pump's knackered or the refrigerant has leaked.

Sorry to hear of it's demise Granty.

I emailed a couple of Beko departments querying the fault and whether we could purchase the part and got this back..

Quote
Thank you for your email.

I have today authorised an engineer to contact you to inspect the appliance.
As a gesture of goodwill we will pay for the repair cost of the appliance.

An engineer will contact you within the next 24/48 hours to book an appointment.

Regards

Beko Customer Servcies

Good on you Beko!  ohmy smile  Even if the other department replied that it was almost impossible to diagnose the fault without a visit and that they could not really help.

I'll be changing the house insurance next as it just renewed itself but we are within the cooling off period!

Then it's off to Virgin Media to ask why they have (again*) increased the bill.  Oh joy.
Over the past 12 months, they have added random costs to several bills which when queried have been removed!

Funnily enough my fridge/freezer died last week too. The same as yours - it had power but was not cold. It will be interesting to find out what the fault is with yours. Perhaps there is a chance to salvage my dead one?

I had our old separate (slightly rusty) fridge and freezer in the garage and I would have been happy to use them for a while.  As it happens one of my friends noticed my facebook status announcing the death of my fridge freezer and they had a Fridge/Freezer sat in their shed. It's bigger & better than my dead one - and cost me £50. Bargain!

I had to throw away a bin bag full of spoiled food  Sad Sad Sad

I hope Beko can fix it for you.

I notice people doing this to us all the time, British Gas are the best, a small note somewhere on their bill said last time they were increasing the DD to £95 a month from £60. Gits!

BT have done it as well.

hold your horses. Just because it's 13 months old, and the guarantee is only for 12 months, you should still be able to get it fixed free of charge by the manufacturer. Part of UK/European law says that any product should be fit for purpose which includes not packing in a month or two after the guarantee has expired—go have a look at http://www.moneysavingexpert.com (search the forums for "Sale of Goods Act" to get full details).

If you phone them and point out the legislation you should be able to get a free repair. Most fridge/freezer guarantees also cover food contents too, so if you want to try your luck you could inquire about this too.

May I suggest switching away from British Gas as they on the same level as Traffic Wardens in my opinion. £95 a month seems rather steep. I just paid £240 for six months of Gas and Electric - however it's been increased by about 20% now.

YTou can suggest it, but I cant due to the debt levels we are in with them (A total of about £150) and having no spare change to get out of it.

That's good to know, thanks Sam.  It would be nice to get the food costs back to, we had only just filled the freezer before going away!

I am still awaiting said phone call so assume the hours quoted were working week hours but have emailed them again for an update.

Will let you know Kim. smile

No wonder with that monthly DD - hope you get it sorted and manage to get away from them.

Our fridge freezer got fixed today, 20 days and 2 engineer visits later!  It's like living in the future! big grin

It was the compressor that had gone.  Beko arranged for an engineer to come to come out last week who diagnosed the fault.  Then another engineer had to come out today with the part and install it.  Huh?

Now, do I try claiming the food costs off them?
