Wasn't sure where to put this...

We're doing an office clear-out... in the loft, amongst other junk, we have a graveyard of 14" and 15" CRT monitors and other redundant PC equipment.  I contacted a local organisation which picks up old computer stuff and refurbishes it for charities etc.  However they told me the 14" CRTs are no use to them because they're now illegal for H&S reasons, so the only thing we can do is pay to have them responsibly wasted at a refinery.

Anybody else heard of this?  shirker maybe? I know you're into all that risk assessment nonsense big grin (or is it just noise you do?)

Maybe they were just looking for an excuse not to take them. I always imagined these types of organisations have mountains of working parts they can't even give away because people only want the good stuff.

There is no minimum, (or maximum) screen size in the 'Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations'. The HSE have tried to stamp out that urban myth many times but it perpetuates. All the Regs say is that screens must be suitable for the task, and a 14" is perfectly fine for most.

HTH.

We do DSE training and assessments. Want a quote..? Tongue

Surely 14" monitors would be fine as CCTV monitors etc etc, even if that was the case.

Why not contact a local school and see if they could use them?

Or not  wink1

You will find most if not all schools are in a similar prediciment trying to get rid of old CRT monitors, I have 10's of 14, 15, 17, 19, 20" CRTs waiting to be taken away when I can get someone too cheaply.

CRTs are just junk these days, I havent brought a new pc for either schools ive worked at with a CRT apart from once.

yeah, and even if schools did want them I don't like kids so they can go punch themselves in the nuts big grin

I think either the guy was mistaken or just making excuses not to take them... we'll probably just get an office clearing company to dispose of them at some public disposal facility.

i wouldn't have thought they were illegal if they still served a purpose, and some laptops have smaller displays

BOOT SALE!

what could I reasonably charge for them, a fiver or something? Wouldn't be worth the several trips with a boot full of rubbish monitors

I'll offer them to you for £30 for the lot, you can flog them out a suitcase Del Tongue
